Elizabeth II


(1) Early life:

Elizabeth was born on 21st April 1926, during the reign of her paternal grandfather, King George V. Her father's the duke of York, was the second son of the king. Her mother, the Duchess of York, was the youngest daughter of Scottish aristocrat the Earl of Strathmore & King Horne. Elizabeth's only sibling, princess Margret, was born in 1930. The two princesses were educated at home under the supervision of their mother & their governess, Marion Crawford, lessons concentrated on history, languages, literature and music.

(2) Marriage:-

Elizabeth met her future husband, prince Philip of Greece & Denmark, in 1934 & 1937. After another meeting, Elizabeth said she fell in love with Philip, & their engagement was officially announced on a July 1947. they got married on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey.

(3) Reign :-

During 1951, George V is health declined, & Elizabeth frequently stood in for him at public events. On 6 Feb. 1952, word arrived of the death of the King & Consequently Elizabeth's immediate accession to the throne. Despite death of Queen Mary on 24 March the coronation on 2 June 1953 went ahead as planned, as Mary had asked before she died. The ceremony in Westminster Abbey was televised for the first time.

Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub:- 

Faculty of Medicine, National Heart & Lung Institute.

Sir Magdi Yacoub is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London and Founder and Director of Research at the Hare field Heart Science Centre (Magdi Yacoub Institute) overseeing over 60 scientists and students in the areas of tissue engineering, myocardial regeneration, stem cell biology, end stage heart failure and transplant immunology. He is also Founder and Director of Magdi Yacoub Research Network which has created the Qatar Cardiovascular Research Center in collaboration with Qatar Foundation and Hamad Medical Corporation.
Professor Yacoub was born in Egypt and graduated from Cairo University Medical School in 1957, trained in London and held an Assistant Professorship at the University of Chicago.  He is a former BHF Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery for over 20 years and Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Harefield Hospital from 1969-2001 and Royal Brampton Hospital from 1986-2001.  Professor Yacoub established the largest heart and lung transplantation programmed in the world where more than 2,500 transplant operations have been performed.  He has also developed novel operations for a number of complex congenital heart anomalies. He was knighted for his services to medicine and surgery in 1991, awarded Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 1998 and Fellowship of The Royal Society in 1999.  A lifetime outstanding achievement award in recognition of his contribution to medicine was presented to Professor Yacoub by the Secretary of State for Health in the same year.
Research led by Professor Yacoub include tissue engineering heart valves, myocardial regeneration, novel left ventricular assist devices and wireless sensors with collaborations within Imperial College, nationally and internationally.  He has also supervised over 18 higher degree (PhD/MD) students and published over 1,000 articles.
Sir Magdi has an active interest in global healthcare delivery with particular focus developing programmers in Egypt, The Gulf Region, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Jamaica.  He is Founder and President of the Chain of Hope charity, treating children with correctable cardiac conditions from war-torn and developing countries and establishing training and research programmes in local cardiac units

Thomas Alva Edison

(1) His early life:-

Edison born on (February 11, 1847 – death October 18, 1931)  in Milan , Ohio , He was the youngest of 7 children , His parents moved  to point Huron , in hopes of improving their financed situation , Edison developed scarlet fever soon after the move , which delayed his schooling , Edison muddled through school , until his mother decided to teach him herself ( at home ) . Little Edison was also allowed to have his own LABORATORY in the basement of the family home, where he worked his way through a book of experiments.

(2) His early careers:-

   Money continued to be tight for the Edison family & Edison got his first job at age of 12, selling newspapers & snacks to train travelers on the new railway line running through Huron Edison's time spent on & around trains were not wasted. Hi got to know the telegraph operator, fascinated by their machine, built his own. After being kicked off the railway, Edison became a travelling telegraph operator for western union.

(3) his Marriages & invention :-  

He made time to get married at age 24, to 16 years old Mary Stilwell, whom he had known for just a few months. During this decade, Edison invented stock tickers, fire alarms, a kind of waxed paper, and many other creation and inventions . One success led to another and in 1876, Edison moved to a much bigger lab in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Within a year, Edison received the patent for the invention that made him world famous – the phonograph. Now we came to the era in Edison's life that most of us are familiar with: - the dawn of the electric bulb. The electric bulb was an idea that many people were pursuing, so many others bad friend and failed.

Edison's personal life. In 1884, Edison's wife Mary died. a year later , he met mina miller , who would become his second wife a year after that . The family moved to West Orange, New Jersey to a bigger house & a bigger lab. Over the years at the labs in Menlo Park & West Orange Edison & his team filled over 3000 notebook with ideas & sketches for inventions.

(4) His Awards:-

Edison worked right up until a few months before his death. During his lifetime, he received 1.093 U.S Patents – 2332 worldwide.

(5) His Death:-

Thomas Edison died on Oct. 13.1931, at 84 years old. On Oct.21st , 1931 , at lop , people across the country turned off their electric lights for a full minute in tribute to this great thinker .
